After the recent excitement in the UK at the WSOPE, EPT, Party Poker World Open V and the IPO in Dublin it’s back to Cyprus and there are some good events happening at the Merit Hotel in Girne, North Cyprus to get your teeth into.

A little closer to home, back in Cyprus there is a 3 day cocktail party going on for the Grand Opening of Casinova. The 3day cocktail party starts this Friday (25th September 6pm til midnight) until Sunday 27th.

The first ever major poker tournament to be played on Cyprus soil was won last night by French poker pro Thomas Bichon. The WPT Merit Classic Poker Tournament event attracted a strong field from all over the world and Bichon finished the day $500,000 richer than he was on Friday.

The worlds most interesting man (according to him) Layne Flack went from hero to zero, after starting day 5 in 3rd place Flack was one of 4 contestants knocked out in a short day at the WPT Classic in Cyprus. The other two were day 2 leader Nenad Medic and Jonathan Little (pictured).

Quick update as day 4 closes at the WPT Merit Classic Poker Tournament in Cyprus.

Rep Porter (pictured) is chip leader with 10 players left in the tournament. He has a massive 1,768,000 compared to an average of 724k.

As the field narrows and we head towards the business end of the WPT Merit Classic Tournament in Northern Cyprus we can expect a few twithcy calls as the remaining 21 players look to get in the money (only the first 18 are paid). Day 3 leader Layne Flack is in a great position to take advantage of his huge chip stack (he has 915k of the 7.2million chips) not bad when you consider there is still 21 players left. Rep Porter should be fairly happy too with his 812,000 chips.

After another exciting day at the WPT Merit Classic Tournament in Cyprus, the one and only Layne Flack goes into tomorrows game chip leader with over 900k in chips.

After an amazing day of play at the WPT Merit Cyprus Classic all 4 of the leaders from day one were knocked out to leave 55 survivors heading into day 3 (today).
Soon out to the hands of Rony Jazzar (whose pair of fives found another on the flop ) was Jan Skampa, Skampa was second overall when play commenced, now Jazzar is second going into day 3.
