WSOP November Nine Grand Final
Outside the Pen and Teller Theatre at the Rio in Vegas yesterday a large crowd of celebs from Ja Rule (supporting Phil Ivey) to Scott Ian, poker pros and poker fans alike gathered to watch the most eagerly awaited Poker events of the year. The WSOP November Nine Grand final.
Once the formalities and introductions were done the poker was underway and the crowd were not disappointed as the starting field of 9 whittled its way down to become the final 2.
Here’s how the field started the Day.
Darvin Moon $61,455,00000
Eric Buchman $35,260,00000
Steven Begleiter $29,850,00000
Jeff Shulmam $20,800,00000
Joseph Cada $14,130,00000
Kevin Schaffel $11,500,00000
Phil Ivey $8,700,00000
Antoine Saout $8,150,00000
James Akenhead $4,980,00000
First to leave the table was James Akenhead after tripling up his stack early on his pair of three’s bit the dust even before Kevin Schaffel’s pair of nines became trips. $1,263,602 Richer James was out in 9th. Kevin Schaffel was next to go in 8th on hand number 59 and what a way to go! Holding AA Schaffel was favourite against Eric Buchmans Kings, until of course Buchman flopped a king and just to rub it in found another on the turn to make quads. Ouch! His $1.3 million dollars prize money will ease the pain though.
Many peoples tip to win the tournament Phil Ivey was next to go and the shockwaves when his AK lost to Darwin Moons AQ could be felt around the Penn and Teller theatre for some time after. In fact many Phil Ivey supporters left for the exits. ($1,404,014) as Ivey went straight online to play $4k / 8k. Begleiter was next in 6th his pair of queens rivered by Moon’s AQ. Then there was 5. …
Jeff Shulman had been receiving some last minute coaching from Daniel Negreanu and was hoping to emulate his Father Barry’s recent win at the WSOPE event in London. His pair of sevens on hand number #236 were not good enough to beat Antoine Saout’s Ace nine and he was gone with only ($1,953,452) to show for it.
Eric Buchman will be happy with his 4th Place position and his ($2,502,890), but will be slightly disappointed his Ace Five couldn’t beat Moon’s KJ. Antoine Saout was the last of the day to go in 3rd with ($3,479,670). His 8′s running into a King on the river against Cada’s AK.
Darvin Moon against Joe Cada heads up to win the title on later tonight, with Joe the big chip leader it is going to be tought for Darvin but this being poker anything can happen!
Joseph Cada $135950000
Darvin Moon $58850000
